Gavin Rae fra Transform-netværket i Polen, Naprzod, vil tale om oprustning i Polen og i Europa
Tid: lørdag d. 24. maj kl. 10
Sted: Studiestræde 24, stuen, København K
(eller på Zoom)
Speaker: Gavin Rae, sociologist, writer, co-founder of the Polish Transform-group Naprzód (Forward), living and working in Warsaw.
“The war in Ukraine has opened up a new period of insecurity, conflict and militarism in Europe. This has particularly affected the countries of Central and Eastern Europe such as Poland. As the largest CEE country, Poland, has embarked on a new wave of militarism, spending almost 5% of its GDP on its military and aiming to build one of the largest and strongest armies in Europe. Poland has also been one of the largest recipients of refugees from Ukraine, whilst introducing draconian measures against migrants from other countries trying to enter the country via the Belarussian border. In the wake of the election of Donald Trump as US President, new divisions have opened up in Europe, with Poland playing a central role in the moves to further militarise Europe. This presentation looks at these developments, considering their wider domestic and international implications.”
